Neil grew up in Cumberland , WI . He joined the U.S. Army during World War I and is believed to have been stationed within the country during the war. He died in a car accident while traveling on US 99 at Ponder’s Corner, just outside of Olympia , Washington . Tragically, his infant daughter left orphaned at the time of his death, as her mother died shortly after her birth.
